Magnus married Marjorie FORBES, daughter of Sir Alexander FORBES 3rd of Pitsligo and Isabel WEMYSS.1 (Marjorie FORBES was born about 1491.)

  Marriage Notes:

There is some hesitation in deceiding whether John Mowat or his son Magnus Mowat married Marjorie Forbes:

"John Mowat, of Loscragy and Freswick. He was a witness with his father in 1487. Mentioned 16 July 1508 and 1 October 1510. Still living 29 April 1511, but died before 20 June 1516, possibly at Flodden. He was probably married to a daughter of Sir Alexander Forbes of Pitsligo. She was married to the Laird of Balquholly late in the 1400s. This must be either John or his son Magnus. For chronological reasons it was most likely John"

from Mowat of Balquholly

Note:
1
The conclusion in the last sentence above is true, only if it is considered that Sir John Ogilvy of Lintrathen married once, to Margaret Countess of Moray. As volume 9, Addenda et Corrigenda, of
The Scots Peerage points out, on page 7 "Airlie" (referring to volume 1 p. 113, 1. 23), it is certain that he later married Isobel Forbes. That being so, a much later date for the birth of the mother of Marjorie Forbes can be assumed. Had she married John, if this scenario is followed, she would be too old to be the grandson of Patrick Mowat of Balquholly, born about 1511.

In addition Magnus Mowat is said to have married a daughter of Hay of Delgaty:

"Magnus Mowat, of Loscragy/Balquholly. Died in 1526 between 8 August and 1 December. According to an ancestor chart from 1674 he was married to Joanna Hay, daughter of Sir Alexander Hay of Delgaty."

Note
2
Based on a charter under the Great Seal, it is thought that Alexander Hay, 4th of Ardendraught and Delgaty married Elizabeth Abernethy about 1510. This being so it is not feasible that their daughter would have been mother of Patrick Mowat of Balquholly, said to have been born in 1511. If Magnus Mowat did marry 'Joanna Hay' she is likely to have been a sister of Alexander Hay, and not his daughter. Or, she may have been his daughter and married Magnus Mowat as a second wife immediately before his death.

Magnus next married Joanna HAY, daughter of Alexander HAY 4th of Ardendraught and Delgaty and Elizabeth ABERNETHY.1 (Joanna HAY was born about 1510(1511).)

  Marriage Notes:

Magnus Mowat is said to have married a daughter of Hay of Delgaty:

"Magnus Mowat, of Loscragy/Balquholly. Died in 1526 between 8 August and 1 December. According to an ancestor chart from 1674 he was married to Joanna Hay, daughter of Sir Alexander Hay of Delgaty."

Note:
Based on a charter under the Great Seal, it is thought that Alexander Hay, 4th of Ardendraught and Delgaty married Elizabeth Abernethy about 1510. This being so it is not feasible that their daughter would have been mother of Patrick Mowat of Balquholly, said to have been born in 1511. If Magnus Mowat did marry 'Joanna Hay', and it was she who was the mother of Patrick Mowat, then she is likely to have been a sister of Alexander Hay, and not his daughter. Or, as here, she may have been his daughter and married Magnus Mowat as a second wife, immediately before his death.
