DESCENT

The Family of Hay states that this John de la Hay is the ancestor of the Hays of Tullibody and, later, of Lochloy. Scots Peerage, volume eight, presenys their descent as being from the Hays of Locherworth. It is this latter scenario that has been followed here, mainly on account of dating difficulties. 1 2

John married Daughter FRASER, daughter of Sir Andrew FRASER Sheriff of Stirling and Possible Daughter LE CHEN.1 (Daughter FRASER was born about 1293.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Sir John de la Hay was the son of Sir William de la Hay of Leys. He adhered to the cause of Robert Bruce and mention is made in 'The History of Nairnshire' that Edward I. was petitioned by Oliver Avenal to bestow upon him the promised lands of Sir John Hay. These lands were afterward restored by King Robert the Bruce to the family. He is a witness to a charter of Alexander of Moravia. He married the daughter and heiress of Sir Andrew Fraser of Touch and Tullibody, who in 1296 was Sheriff of Stirling."
