Marriage Notes: "Sir John St. Clair of Herdmanston, the eldest son, resigned the barony of Cessworth to his brother Sir Walter 1375/76. From Margaret Stewart, Countess of Mar, he had a charter of all her lands in Kymergham, dated at Tantallon 2 January 1378, which was confirmed under the Great Seal on 9 May 1429. He witnessed a charter by George Douglas, Lord of the fee of Angus, circa 1393-97. He married Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of Sir Patrick Polwarth of that Ilk, and with her obtained these lands.
