Note:

Various secondary sources name Janet's father as Alexander, but The Irvines of Drum names only one son of Richard, the first laird of Craigton, as Archibald.

Archibald then became the father of Richard Irvine of Hilton. Janet is not mentioned at all. No 'Alexander Irvine of Craigtown' is named.

It is possible that Janet was the daughter of an older son of Richard, who was named Alexander, but that he died before his father, leaving only a daughter, Janet, whereupon his younger brother Archibald, actually became laird on their father's death. ^{1 2}
