  • Born: About 1495
  • Marriage (1): IRVINE, Janet 1

   User ID: N446.

  General Notes:

"Hugh Rose of Kilravock, by Margaret Gordon, was father to a third sone, (as I have learned) named Alexander, predecessor to the present familie of Rose of Inch, whose genealogie is thus, as I have receaved it. This Alexander Rose, son to Kilravock, removeing from this countrey, acquired the lands of Larachmoir, and was father to Henrie Rose of Larachmoir; who was father to Mr. James Rose of Inch, and minister of Aberdeen ; who was father to Mr. John Rose of Inch, and parson of Inch in Mar ; who was father to Mr. Alexander Rose of Inch, parson of Monimuss, and to the most Reverend Arthur, Bishop of Argyle, and afterwards of Glasgow, one of the Lords of his Majesties Privie Council and Exchequer, created Archbishop of St. Andrews and Primat of Scotland, 1684. Mr. Alexander Rose, parson of Monimuss, was father to Mr. John Rose, now of Inch and parson of Foveran, maried to a daughter of the familie of Udnie ; and to Mr. Alexander Rose, professor of Divinity in the Universitie of Glasgow."

from Family of Rose 2

Alexander married Janet IRVINE, daughter of Archibald IRVINE 2nd of Craigton and Marjory (1) LUMSDEN.1 (Janet IRVINE was born about 1510.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Alexander Rose, 1st of Larachmoir is the son of Hugh Rose, 8th of Kilravock and Isabel Sutherland. He married Janet Irvine, daughter of Alexander (see Note below) Irvine of Craigtown"

from thepeerage.com

Note:

Various secondary sources name Janet's father as Alexander, but
The Irvines of Drum names only one son of Richard, the first laird of Craigton, as Archibald.

Archibald then became the father of Richard Irvine of Hilton. Janet is not mentioned at all. No 'Alexander Irvine of Craigtown' is named.

It is possible that Janet
was the daughter of an older son of Richard, who was named Alexander, but that he died before his father, leaving only a daughter, Janet, whereupon his younger brother Archibald, actually became laird on their father's death. 1 3
