Hugh married Anne HAMILTON, daughter of James HAMILTON 2nd Marquess of Hamilton, Earl of Cambridge and Anne CUNNINGHAM, 13 April 1631(contract).¹ (Anne HAMILTON was born about 1612, died on 16 October 1632 in Struthers, Fife, Scotland ¹ and was buried on 15 November 1632 in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland ¹.)

  Marriage Notes:

"The seventh Earl married, first, Anne, eldest daughter of James, second Marquess of Hamilton. Their contract of marriage is dated 7 and 13 April 1631, the bridegroom being then only eighteen years of age. The young wife, however, died little more than a year after the marriage, at the Struthers in Fife, on 16 October 1632, and was buried at Kilwinning 15 November following."

Hugh next married Mary LESLIE, daughter of John LESLIE 6th Earl of Rothes and Anne ERSKINE, 24 December 1635(contract).^{1 2} (Mary LESLIE was born about 1622.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Lord Montgomerie, as he still was, married, secondly (contract dated 17 and 24 December 1635), Mary, eldest daughter of John Leslie, sixth Earl of Rothes, her tocher being 25,000 merks Scots.2 By his two wives the Earl had issue."
