"Thomas, who was his father's procurator in 1478 in a dispute with the Abbot of Jedburgh, relative to the lands of Stewartfield, near Jedburgh. He had a grant of the lands of Synlaws, Merbottil, and Minto on 2 November 1476 on his elder brother's resignation. In the grant the King styles him 'familiaris armiger suus,' or Squire of the Body, a post which he held for many years...... He was ancestor of the Stewarts of Minto, for many years hereditary Provosts of Glasgow, and subsequently Lords Blantyre."

Thomas married Isabella STEWART, daughter of Walter STEWART of Arthurley and Janet CAMERON, by 16 August 1477.1 2 (Isabella STEWART was born about 1450.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Thomas Stewart, second son of Sir William Stewart of Dalswinton got a charter of the lands of Sealaws and Morebattle, and a third part of the barony of Minto, with the superiority of the whole barony, 2 November 1476; on 10 August 1477 he had a charter of the lands of Househill, in Lanarkshire ; and on 20 February 1489-90
another of the lands of Busby in the same county. He married Isabella, daughter and co-heiress of Walter Stewart of Arthurle by Janet Cameron his wife."

"He (Thomas Stewart) married Isabella Stewart, daughter of Walter Stewart of Arthurley, as appears from a charter dated 16 August 1477 in their favour by Sir John Stewart of Darnley, who therein terms them his 'cousins.' "
