DRUMMOND, Malcolm 'Beg' Seneschal or Steward to Maldowen, Earl of Lennox 1
User ID: V459 General Notes: "Malcolm (Drummond), called Malcolm Beg, who is styled in one writ Seneschal or Steward to Maldowen, Earl of Lennox, and who appears as a witness to various charters of that Earl between 1225 and 1250. It may be noted that in all the Drummond family histories Malcolm Beg is said to have had a brother Roderick. In 1234, Malcolm Beg gives evidence as to the ownership of the lands of Monachkennaran, and there his brother Rotheric is also a witness, but if it is the same Malcolm Beg, and there is nothing to disprove it, though it is doubtful, it is remarkable that his brother is styled Rotheric Beg of Carrick, thus suggesting that they were both of Ayrshire descent. Malcolm Beg is said to have left two sons : Malcolm married. |
