  General Notes:

"PATRICK, son of Thomas of Galloway and the Countess Isabella, had a brief career, and the chief statement concerning him in Scottish records is the narrative of his death. He is named as 'Patrick, son of the Earl of Atholl,'
in a charter by Patrick, fifth Earl of Dunbar, some time before 1231, and it is probably he who, as Earl of Atholl,
witnessed, with other nobles, both English and Scottish, the important agreement on 25 September 1237, between Henry III. of England and Alexander II. of Scotland when the latter surrendered his hereditary rights to the counties of Northumberland, Cumberland, and Westmoreland in return for a grant of land."

from Scots Peerage

"In 1242, Patrick was murdered during the night whilst at Haddington, and the house in which he slept was burnt down to conceal the crime. John and Walter Bisset were rumoured to have killed Patrick, and outlawed; Patrick's earldom was inherited by David de Hastings, earl of Atholl (d.1247). (Chron. Mel.)"
