(About 1501-) |
WISHART, John 7th of Pitarrow 1
User ID: V361. General Notes: "John (30), eldest son of James Wischeard of Pittarrow, held a portion of his lands from the Abbey of Arbroath. Of that abbey, David Beaton, the future cardinal, became commendator in 1524. On the 10th of May, 1525, Beaton, as Abbot of Arbroath, directed to James Strachan of Monboddo, and others, a precept for infefting John Wischeard (30) as heir to his father, James Wischeard (21) of Pitarrow, in the Mill and lands of Conveth (Laurencekirk), held by the abbey in chief. This precept is not, according to usage, sealed with the official seal of the abbey, but with the abbot's private seal, on which his family arms are engraved, and he also attaches his signature."
