from GD305/1/81/40

Note:
The above description of the relationship of Alexander Dunbar to James Dunbar, his heir, is that of brother. Another document names Alexander as father of James:

"Dated at Ballenbrech 17th May 1604.
Precept of Clare Constat by the said Andrew Earl of Rothes etc. for infefting James Dunbar of Tarbat as heir of the said Alexander Dunbar his father in the said Lands of Kindeis and Downylarne which were held of the Granter in chief" (GD305/1/104/286)
It seems more likely that James was a brother of Alexander. No wife is mentioned for Alexander, and the relative dates suggest they were of the same generation.
