Marriage Notes: "David Kennedy of Culzean, who appears in an assize for valuation of certain lands in Wigtownshire 17 December 1556, and as bailie depute of Carrick 1557- 58. He was one of the hostages for the Earl in England 1543. He was alive 19 January 1562, when he witnesses a contract between Quintin, Abbot of Crossraguel, and Sir Hugh Kennedy of Girvanmains, as to salmon fishings in Girvan. He got a charter of the lands of Culzean from his brother, Earl Gilbert, dated 30 September 1542, and confirmed by James V. 1 October 1542. He married Janet, daughter of Duncan Kennedy of Daljedburgh, was infeft in Dalquharran, Daljedburgh, and had issue three daughters, Margaret, Egidia, and Katherine. The daughters' names and their husbands are mentioned as heirsportioners of their father in the summons of declarator dated 2 February 1590, at the instance of David M'Gill against the Earl of Cassillis and others." |
