ANNATHILL

Also 'Anathill' in older spelling. Annathill lies south of Mollinsburn, south-west of Condorrat, near Cumbernaul, now in North Lanarkshire. It originally consisted of farmsteads. In 1905 William Baird & Co Ltd sunk a colliery there to mine coking coal; the colliery was known as Bedlay Colliery.

"The coke ovens were installed to supply the Company's Gartsherrie iron-smelting works in Coatbridge. The colliery was retained as it produced coking coal, a comparative rarity in Scotland. It survived until 1981, and the village was then demolished. It was the last surviving traditional mining village in Lanarkshire." (Canmore) 3 4

George married.
