  Marriage Notes:

"Barbara (Hamilton), the eldest daughter, was first contracted to Alexander, Lord Gordon, eldest son and heir of George, fourth Earl of Huntly, but it is not certain that the marriage took place, as he died before 18 June 1553, shortly after their betrothal, although in one writ they are said to have been married, and in another she is styled his relict, and she, in December 1553, renounced all her rights over his lands. She was married (contract dated 22 December 1553) to James, Lord Fleming, Chamberlain of Scotland." (page 370)

"Alexander (Gordon), Lord Gordon. On 8 August 1552 he had a charter of the lands of Glenloy and others, forfeited by Mackintosh of Dunnauchtane, and on 18 September following, a charter of the lands of Petty and others forfeited by the Earl of Moray. He died shortly after the latter date ; he was contracted to Barbara Hamilton, eldest daughter of the Duke of Chatelherault, but it is not certain that the marriage took place, as he died before 18 June 1553, soon after the betrothal (see ante, p. 370). She afterwards married James, Lord Fleming." (page 536)
