  General Notes:

"1520

Murder of the Laird

Walter Ross, the 8th Laird, takes over after the death of his father. His mother, Helen Keith, was the daughter of the Laird of Inverurie, and widely regarded as 'ane guid woman'. Walter Ross the 8th of Balnagown was never fully invested as Clan Chief before he was killed in 1527, 'murdered by a Near Cousin of his own, . . . called Hugh Ross in his own house of Teabrackie near Taine.' However, reports vary, and other accounts suggest Walter was killed by members of the Clan Mackay."

Walter married Marion GRANT, daughter of John GRANT 2nd of Freuchie, 'Am Bard Ruadh', 'The Red Bard' and Margaret OGILVY.1 (Marion GRANT was born about 1499.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Walter (Ross), eighth of Balnagown, was slain at Tain 12th May 1528 (Kal. of F.), having married Marion, daughter of Sir John James Grant of Grant"
