Janet married Alexander CUMMING of Altyre, son of Sir Thomas CUMING 'Baron of Altre' and Unknown.1 (Alexander CUMMING of Altyre was born about 1475 and died by 16 May 1553 1.)
Marriage Notes:
"Alexander Cumyn, second born but eldest surviving son and heir of Sir Thomas Cumyn of Altyre, married, during his father's lifetime, 'Janet,' daughter of Sir William Fraser of Cowie and Philorth, progenitor of the Lords Saltoun.
It is probable that the charter from John, Lord of the Isles, of 19th August 1496, was in restitution of this lady's dower. By her he left two sons:
1, Thomas ; and, 2, Ferquhard."

Note: It's clear that the author of Family Records of the Bruces and the Cumyns is referring in the above quotation to William Fraser, 2nd of Pilorth, as he later notes that "Sir William Fraser of Cowie and Philorth died in 1441." (page 462)
This would, of course, mean Janet Fraser would have to have been born before 1442 at the latest. How this could be true if her husband, Alexander, did not die until the early 1550s is not easy to imagine.
For this reason, Janet Fraser has been placed here as the daughter of a later William Fraser of Philorth, whose dates fit more consistently with the evnts of her husband's life. 1
