"Philip de Setun, who had from King William the Lion a charter of confirmation, granted at Stirling between 1177
and 1185, of the lands of Setune, Wintune and Winchelburgh, which had been his father's. Maitland states that he died in the fourteenth year of King William, i.e. in 1178 or 1179; but he seems to have witnessed a Crown
charter which cannot be assigned to an earlier date than 1184."
