Thomas Hardie was living at Goosepools in Methlick Parish, Aberdeenshire, when the census for Scotland in 1851 was taken. He was, in that census list, the middle child of nine children. Thomas was recorded as 9 years old and recorded as born in Methlick, Aberdeenshire.
The census of 1861 for Ellon parish Aberdeenshire recorded Thomas Hardie, aged 18 years, living at Claymires. He was a jorneyman wright.
In 1871 Thomas Hardie, aged 28 years and working as a cart wright, and his family, Annie A Hardie aged 26 years, John C Hardie, aged 9 years, Matthew S Hardie, aged 3 years, and James C Hardie,11 months, were recorded living in Old Machar parish Aberdeen at 33 Bairnshall Lane.
Thomas Hardie was the informant of the birth of his son Alexander Archibald Harvie on 7 November 1876 in Aberdeen.
In 1881 Thomas Hardie, a joiner, was living in Gladstone Plce Aberdeen with his wife, Anne, and their children Matthew, James, Alexander and Charles.
The 1901 census recorded Thomas and Annie Hardie living at 13 Summer Street in the Woodside area of Aberdeen. Thomas was a cart wright.
The death certificate of Thomas Hardie of 1925 recorded him as a cartwright and married to Ann Andrew Cameron. His age at death was recorded as 80 years.
"Aberdeen Press and Journal - Monday 01 June 1925, p9: MR THOMAS P. HARDIE, WOODSIDE. The death took place his residence, Inverurie Road, Bucksburn, on Saturday of Mr Thomas Paterson Hardie, cartwright, Woodside. Mr Hardie spent the greater part of his life at Woodside, being for many years with the well-known firm, now defunct, of Messrs Johnston and Fullerton, builders, and thereafter in business on his own account for over years. He was also for 12 years mechanic at Garlogie Mills, Skene. A man of sterling character, he was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He was born at Auchencreive, Methlick, and was a son of the late Mr William Hardie, better known "Fiddler Hardie." He was for 16 years procentor in Skene Parish Church, and held similar appointments at Newmachar, Oldmeldrum, etc. He was brother of the late Mr James Hardie, the well-known Edinburgh violin maker, and of the late Mr Charles S. Hardie, the Aberdeen fiddler. He leaves a family of five sons, his wife having predeceased him 11 years ago."
