General Notes: In 1841 Thomas Hay was living at Maxwelton mains in the parish of Glencairn in Dumfriesshire. His age was noted as 28 years and he had been born in Scotland outside of Dumfriesshire. In the same household lived Mathew and James Fergusson, an apprentice gardener and an agricultural labourer respectively, and Margaret Ballantine, a "farmer". Margaret was recorded as 32 years of age and born in Dumfriesshire. Thomas married Margaret BALLANTYNE, daughter of John BALLANTINE and Margaret CLARK (DNA Linked), on 21 May 1843 in Glencairn parish, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.1 (Margaret BALLANTYNE was born on 16 September 1805 in Tynron parish, Dumfriesshire, Scotland 7, baptised on 17 September 1805 in Tynron parish, Dumfriesshire, Scotland 7 and died on 13 November 1880 in Maxwelton Lodge, Glencairn parish, Dumfriesshire, Scotland 8.). The cause of her death was cerebral haemorrhage over 3 days/valvular disease of the heart and bronchitis over years. |
