Old Parish Registers
Tynron parish Dumfriesshire
Births & Baptisms

"Register of Births & Baptisms Tynron
1805
Born Sep 16
Margaret Daughter of John Ballantyne & Margaret Clark Tynron Kirk Baptised 17"

In 1841 Thomas Hay was living at Maxwelton mains in the parish of Glencairn in Dumfriesshire. His age was noted as 28 years and he had been born in Scotland outside of Dumfriesshire. In the same household lived Mathew and James Fergusson, an apprentice gardener and an agricultural labourer respectively, and Margaret Ballantine, a "farmer". Margaret was recorded as 32 years of age and born in Dumfriesshire.

Note: In census returns Margaret's year of birth is recorded as 1808-9 consistently, but later censuses make it clear she was born in Tynron parish and the only Margaret Ballantyne born there in that decade was born in 1805.

When Margaret died in 1880, her death certificate recorded her as aged 73 years at the time of death and "married to Thomas Hay Gamekeeper". Her parents were deceased. 2 3 5
