  General Notes:

The 1841 census for West Lothian recorded two related families living side by side: William Thomson 75 years, Elizabeth Thomson 65 years, William Thomson 20 years, Isabell Thomson 8 years, George Strang 20 years, Christian Strang 20 years Elizabeth Strang 1 year. William Thomson was a linen handloom weaver. The younger William Thomson was an agricultural labourer. George Strang was a collier.

The 1851 census recorded George Strang and his wife and family living in Nethertown, Harthill, Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland. There were six children aged from 12 years to 1 year, all of whom were noted as being born in Shotts parish. Only Marrion was recorded as born in Whitburn parish. George was a coal miner.

George's gravestone notes his age at death as 35 years.

When Christian Strang, nee Thomson, died in 1907 her death certificate recorded her as 91 years old, and the widow of George Strang, coalminer. 1 2 4 5 6

  Research Notes:

The baptisms in the Church of Scotland Registers end at 1842 for this family. Information for later children are from census and other sources. The three eldest children were baptised in Whitburn but it is possible they were not born in the parish.

George married Christian THOMSON, daughter of William THOMSON Handloom Weaver and Elizabeth RUSSELL. (Christian THOMSON was born on 26 November 1815 in Whitburn parish, West Lothian, Scotland 3, baptised on 16 December 1815 in Whitburn parish, West Lothian, Scotland 1 2 3 4 7 and died on 6 February 1907 in Main Street, Harthill, Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 6.). The cause of her death was senile decay.
