In 1861 the census for Saline parish, Fife, recorded Robert Traill, his wife Janet Langlands and their two children John and George living at 61 South Oakley. Robert worked as a boiler maker. Robina Langlands, an aunt, and Andrew Forrest, a lodger, also lived in the household.

The census for Old Monkland parish Lanarkshire taken in 1871, recorded Robert Frail, his wife Janet, and their children John Robert, Margaret and Janet living in Calderbank. The parents were born in Midlothian, and all of the children were recorded as born in Oakley Fife. Robert was a boilermaker.

The 1881 census for Old Monkland parish recorded Robert and Janet Frail and their family living at 16 English Row. Robert, aged 49 years, was a boiler maker. Like Janet his wife, aged 50 years, he was recorded as born in Musselburgh, Midlothian. Of their five children, John, Robert, Margaret, Janet and George, only George was recorded as having been born in Musselburgh, the others being natives of Oakley, Fife. George was a carpenter. John was an engine fitter. Robert was an apprentice balcksmith. Margaret was a dressmaker and janet was at school.

The 1901 census recorded Robert and Janet Frail and their granddaughter Bessie Frail, aged 12 years, living at 293 Dundyvan Road, Coatbridge. Robert's occupation was boilermaker. 2 3 6 7


Robert married Janet LANGLANDS on 9 October 1857 in Inveresk and Musselburgh parish, Midlothian, Scotland.1 (Janet LANGLANDS was born about 1831 in Inveresk and Musselburgh parish, Midlothian, Scotland 2 3 6 7 and died in 1902 in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4.)
