No baptism or birth record has as yet been found for Margaret Marshall in the online Scottish records, though this does not mean one does not exist. Not all non-conformist records, for example, are publicly available.

When William Russell died at Dykehead, Shotts parish, in 1861 his death certificate recorded him as "Engine Keeper married to Margaret Marshall".

The 1861 census for Shotts parish recorded Margaret living with her daughter and grandson in Janet Polack's Houses:



When Margaret Russell died in 1863 she was recorded as aged 72 years, and "widow of William Russell Iron Furnace Engine Keeper". Her parents were deceased. James Black, a neighbour who had been present where the death occurred, was the informant of Margaret's death. 3 4

Margaret married William RUSSEL (DNA Link), son of William RUSSELL Farmer in Newarthill, Lanarkshire DNA linked and Elizabeth RUSSALL (DNA Linked), on 14 January 1816 in Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 (William RUSSEL (DNA Link) was born on 24 December 1794 in Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4 8 11 12, baptised in December 1794 in Shottsburn, Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 11 12 and died on 13 February 1861 in Dykehead, Shotts parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland 4.). The cause of his death was paralysis over about 12 months.3
