STRACHAN, Alexander 2nd Baronet of Thornton, Colonel Sir
Another name for Alexander was STRAUCHAN, Alexander of Thornton, Sir.1 General Notes: During the Civil War, the chief, Colonel Alexander Strachan led a body of dragoons from Clan Strachan at the Battle of Carbisdale in 27 April 1650, where he held command under General Sir David Leslie on the side of the Covenanters. They were victorious against the Royalist army of James Graham, 5th Earl and 1st Marquess of Montrose. Montrose was captured following the battle, sentenced to death by the Scottish Parliament, and executed in Edinburgh on 21 May 1650. Noted events in his life were: 1.
