John married Helen ARBUTHNOTT, daughter of Robert ARBUTHNOTT 2nd Viscount of Arbuthnott and Katharine GORDON, in 1710.¹ (Helen ARBUTHNOTT was baptised on 26 December 1675 in Bervie parish, Kincardineshire, Scotland ⁴ and died in December 1741 ³.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Helen, married, first, to John Macfarlane of Arrochar, and was, by him, the mother of Walter Macfarlane, the eminent antiquary ; and secondly, to John Spottiswood of that Ilk, also with issue. She died in December 1741."
