General Notes:
In 1656, the baptismal register of Kilsyth parish Stirlingshire records the baptism of Alexander Steine, son to "Jon Steine in Lenzie": "STEINE ALEXANDER JOHN STEINE/ M 27/04/1656 483/10 248 Kilsyth"
In the text of the baptismal record it says that a "testimoniall" was provided by "Jon Gartschoir ane elder", and that Patrick Gartschoir and Alexander Gartschoir witnessed the baptism.
"About the end of the reign of King Charles I. (see Note below) the estate (Gartshore) was in possession of Captain Patrick Gartshore of that Ilk, who was reckoned a 'gentleman of honour and a brave soldier.' He is likely to have been the 'Laird of Gartshore' who appears in the records of Parliament as a Commissioner on Loans and Taxes, 1643 ; on the Committee of War, 1647-48; and as Member of Parhament for Dumbartonshire, 1685-86 (see Note below). When he died without issue the succession devolved on his immediate younger brother James Gartshore, D.D., Parson of Cardross. The doctor possessed the estate for some years, but as it was burdened with a liferent to his brother's widow, and encumbered with debt contracted by his brother while in the army; he, for payment of these obligations, assigned the property to his youngest brother, Alexander Gartshore, who was bred a merchant."

Note:
Some of the above information is true but some is erroneous:
1
On 26 May 1661 John Gartshore of that Ilk, presumably Patrick's father, was still living and using that designation, according to the baptism text of John Ramsay, son of James Ramsay and Marie Gartshore, which cites him as witness. So 'Laird of Gartshore' would most likely refer to John Gartshore of that Ilk in the 1640s, and John would have still been laird at the end of the reign of King Charles I.
In the baptism narrative of his son Laurence on 30 January 1659 Patrick was recorded as "fiar of Garschore." Then in his daughter Jean's January 1660 baptism text he was called "Patrick Laird Gartshore", which is a little perplexing if his father was indeed still living, though John Gartshore may have resigned his land to his son while still retaining his known designation in everyday life. Finally, in Patrick's daughter Isobell's baptism record of 11 August 1661 Patrick was recorded as "Umqhll Patrik Garshore of that ilk."
In the index of wills Patrick is recorded, in 1661, as "Patrick Gartschoir, eldest lawful son to John G. of that Ilk."

Patrick's brother, Alexander Gartshore of that Ilk, is the person actually being referred to in "Member of Parliament for Dumbartonshire, 1685-86." In fact, Alexander was one two Commissioners, not MPs, in office:

CHILDREN
There are two deaths recorded in the Scottish records under the name of 'Patrick Garshore': "GARSHORE PATRICK ----- M 12/02/1664 685 / 1 770 / 24 Edinburgh"
"GARTHORE PATRICK ----- M 23/12/1664 685 / 1 770 / 42 Edinburgh"
both of which say simply "Patrick Garshore his child". It is not known if these refer to the deaths of the two children noted on this site, or to two other children of the couple. Both deaths occurred after the death of Patrick. 1 5 11 12
