The 1861 census for Bothwell parish, Lanarkshire, Scotland, recorded John O'Niel [sic] as the head of a household living in Mossend village. With John lived his wife, Sarah, their four young children, John's mother, Mary and a 22 year old Irish born lodger. John's mother, Mary O'Niel was a woman of 55 years of age who had been born in Ireland. 'Housework' was noted as her occupation. ²

Mary married Francis O'NEILL in Killeshill, County Tyrone. (Francis O'NEILL in Killeshill, County Tyrone was born about 1800.)
