David married Margaret LIVINGSTON, daughter of Sir John LIVINGSTON 4th of Dunipace and Margaret COLVILL, by 29 July 1599.¹ (Margaret LIVINGSTON was born about 1572.)

"David Carnegie succeeded his father in Balmachie. He married Margaret Livingstone, and with her had, on 29 July 1599, a charter of novodamus of the lands of Balveny and Balglassie, in Forfarshire, on David's resignation."

"CC3/1/2 - 21 March 1601: is an entry in the Brechin Commissariot Acts and Decreets relating to Margaret Levingston, relict of James Arbuthnott, and now spouse to David Carnegy of Balmachy. The date of this proves James died some time before the date generally attributed to him (1606)"
