According to The Gordons of Nethermuir by J.M.Bulloch it was not the Aberlour Gordons that James Brodie's first wife belonged but to the Nethermuir branch of the Gordon family. She was Elizabeth Gordon, second daughter of John Gordon V of Nethermuir and his wife Elizabeth Gordon, daughter of James Gordon 4th of Rothiemay. ^{1 3}
