He became chamberlain upon his father's death in November 1215. William married Lora, daughter of Saer de Quincy, earl of Winchester (d. 1219), by whom he had three daughters: Lora, who married Henry de Balliol of Cavers (d. 1246) and who became chamberlain; Christiana, who married Peter de Maule; and Isabel, who married David Comyn of West Linton (PEB).
