Note on Mary Gordon's will:

The will of
"Umqle Mary Gordon, Relict of the deceased George Forbes Sometimes of Lochirmick" was made on 1 October 1777.

She appointed in it her daughter Christian Forbes as her Executrix. Christian's
"now husband" was recorded as " - More, Painter in Edinburgh", and Christian was also referred to as "Relict of the deceased James Robertson late merchant in Aberdeen".

Some points arising were:

- money was owing to Mary Gordon from Arthur Dingwall Fordyce, advocate

- Christian Forbes was the main beneficiary of the will

- £30 sterling is bequeathed to Janet Forbes "my eldest daughter" spouse to William Malcolm in Lasts

- £100 sterling was left to Helen Forbes "my daughter Spouse to Robert Steel Confectioner in Edinburgh"

- the two legacies named above are for the sole use of her daughters and not to be passed on to their husbands, and they are to be paid at the first term of Whitsunday or Martinmas after the death or second marriage of Christian Forbes, of the deaths of William Malcolmson [sic] or Robert Steel, whichever should happen sooner

- the terms of the will were first laid out in June 1775 by Mary Gordon 3 4 5


Mary married George FORBES of Lochermick, Merchant, son of Alexander FORBES of Lochermick, jnr Merchant Burgess of Aberdeen, Jacobite 1715 and Jannett GORDON.1 (George FORBES of Lochermick, Merchant was baptised on 14 January 1707 in Saint Nicholas parish, Aberdeen, Scotland 4 and died on 20 April 1765 6.)
