In the census of 1851 Charles and Jane William were recorded living with their three children at "House On Whitehouse", Tough parish, Aberdeenshire. Charles was an agricultural labourer.

The 1861 census for Keig parish Aberdeenshire recorded Charles William, a crofter of 15 acres, his wife Jean, their daughters Jean and Mary, and Ann Calder, a visitor who was a domestic servant by occupation, living at Brindyhill.

When Charles Williams [sic] died in 1885 his death certificate recorded him as a "Crofter married to Jane Calder" and aged 70 years. Both of his parents were deceased.
