  General Notes:

The narrative of Alexander Gordon's Testament Dative and Inventory is dated 2 November 1750. In it he is recorded as ""umqll Alexr Gordon Ensign in general Cornwallis's Regt. of Marines". It relates that he died abroad in March 1743, no date given. Only Executive Dative was Dr James Gordon of Pitlurg "cousin german to the defunct...qua nearest in kin decerned to him".

"150- Alexander. 1741, Feb. 5, 2nd Lt., Cornwallis's Marines (MS. A.L., 1742-3, 148; 1745, 148, 200; A. Corns., P.R.O.). 1743. Mar. 18, d. s.p., at Sheerness (London Daily Post, Apr. 12)."

Alexander had a sister who died unmarried. Alexander himself died before his father, and after Alexander Gordon 8th of Pitlurg's death, the property passed to the grandson of his uncle Dr John Gordon, who was Dr James Gordon of Hilton then Pitlurg, referred to in the Testament of the younger Alexander. 1 2 4
