John married Margaret Countess of Mar, daughter of Donald Earl of Mar, Regent of Scotland and Isabel STEWART, before July 1388.1 (Margaret Countess of Mar was born about 1325 and died in 1390 1.)


  Marriage Notes:

"Douglas and she were married, so far as can be ascertained, in 1357, and she survived him, marrying, as her second husband, before July 1388, Sir- John Swinton of Swinton, and dying in 1390."

John next married Margaret STEWART, daughter of Robert STEWART Duke of Albany, Earl of Fife and Menteith and Margaret GRAHAM 10th Countess of Menteith, after 1390.2 (Margaret STEWART was born about 1364.)

"Margaret, married, first, after 1390, to Sir John Swinton of Swinton, who was killed at Homildon, 14 September 1402 ; and, secondly, to Robert Stewart of Lorn, by both of whom she had issue." (page 149 ii. 11 and 12)
