General Notes:
A child of 5 days of age, and not yet registered, was recorded by the 1871 census. Like William Boyle she was recorded as the grandchild of the head of the household James Lynch.
Elizabeth Denny, an illegitimate child, was registered on 24 April 1871 by her mother Bridget Denny as having been born on 3 April 1871 at 0.30 am. The census was taken on the night of the 2nd into the 3rd of April. It may be presumed that the statutory period of three weeks for registering a child's birth, having elapsed, the date of 3 April 1871 was the only possible date that could legally be selected, even though the child had been born at least 5 days before that.
Elizabeth Lynch was living with her mother and brother, William, at Dove's Cross land, Nitshill in Renfrewshire when the census of 1881 was taken. The entry recorded her as 10 years of age and born in Abbey parish Renfrewshire. She was at school.
In 1891 the census recorded Elizabeth Lynch living with her mother and her brother William at Cross Land in the Barrhead and Levern District of Abbey parish. She was 18 years old and employed as a farm worker. A single woman, she had been born in Abbey parish, Renfrewshire.
The census of 1901 recorded Bridget Lynch living as a boarder in the household of Isaac McKenzie, an English-born general labourer, and his wife Maggie, who had three sons and two daughters of their own. The household lived in Whyles square in Nitshill, Paisley, Renfrewshire. Boarding with Bridget were Elizabeth Lynch, probably her daughter, and a child of 5 years of age also named Elizabeth Lynch. Elizabeth, elder, was aged 28 years and had been born in Nitshill, Renfrewshire. She was a farm worker and recorded as a single woman.
Elizabeth Lynch Boyle, daughter of the deceased, who had been present where her mother Bridget's death occurred, notified the registrar at Pollokshaws on 10 May 1909, and made her X mark. 1 2 3 4 5 6
Research Notes:
FATHER
Elizabeth's father is not known. It may have been james Boyle named in her mothe's death certificate, but given that she was registered at birth as Elizabeth Denny, it is unlikely the parents were officially married. 4
Elizabeth married.
