William Hardy and Mary Strachen residing in Auchencrieve had a lawful daughter born on the day of and baptized on 1st day of September 1852 by the Revd Mr Whyte Minister of Methlick before Witnesses James Brand in Auchencrieve and James Barron in Tillyfar called Margaret"

In the 1861 census for the parish of Methlick, Margaret Hardie was the one of the children of William and Mary Hardie listed in the entry. Her birthplace was recorded as Methlick, Aberdeenshire, and her age as 7 years.

The 1871 census recorded Margaret Hardie, aged 17 years, working as a general servant in the household of James Strand at Sessnie in Methlick parish.
