  General Notes:

"Alexander Douglas (d. 1692) was Professor of Hebrew at Edinburgh University from 1681 to 1690 and a major donor to Edinburgh University Library.

Described as a 'student of theology', Douglas was appointed Professor of Hebrew and Oriental Languages in 1681 but was dismised as part of the purge of Episcopalian and Jacobite Staff that followed the visitation of Edinburgh University on 27 August 1690. At his death in 1692 the College Library received 104 of his books, which were handed over by his brother, minister of Saltoun. He also left to the College the sum of 225 merks, being a quarter's salary which was due to him from the College."
