TILQUHILLIE

John Douglas who married Mary Young of Seaton in 1594 was the great great grandson of David Douglas, second son of Sir Henry Douglas of Lochleven, and Janet Ogstoun of Fettercairn, who brought to him the lands of Tilquhillie. Sir Henry Douglas of Lochleven was descended from the Douglases of Morton. ¹

John married Mary YOUNG, daughter of Sir Peter YOUNG of Seaton, Preceptor to King James VI and I and Elizabeth GIBB, in 1594.¹ (Mary YOUNG was born on 1 June 1579 ².)

  Marriage Notes:

"John Douglas of Tilquhillie, married in 1594 Mary, daughter of Sir Peter Young of Seaton. He was retoured heir to his father in 1598, and left seven sons : (a) John (No. 374). (killed in battle 1632, succeeded by brother Archibald, then brother Robert) (b) Sir Archibald Douglas. Knighted by King Charles I. He married Eleanor, daughter of George, twentieth Lord Audley and first Earl of Castlehaven, and widow of Sir John Davis. (c) Sir Robert (No. 375). (d) James (No. 376).
