  General Notes:

"Mr. John's brother, Alexander Lauder, was chaplain and tutor at Whittinghame. He appears to have died young, deeply regretted. His death is recorded with quaint simplicity by his elder brother, the chronicler : -

'December 21, 1628. - Alexander Lauder, my brother, depairtit this lyff, and sleepit maist sweetlie in the Lord, betwixt sevin and aucht houris at nicht, at Whittinghame, in my lord of Whittinghame his hous : and was brocht doune in ane hors litter to Tyninghame upon Tysday, the twentie-third of December, to his buryall besyd his father and brother, many accompanying him, bothe gentlemen and utheris.'
