"Robert is mentioned in his father's Testament proved in 1598. [....]

In June 1598 William Lauder in Cauldscheilles offered himself as a financial supporter until 'his lawful age or marriage' of Robert Lauder, son and heir of the late Robert Lauder of that Ilk [William's brother]. The sureties were Alexander Lauder of Haltoun and Nicol Cairncross of Calfhill.[1The Register of the Privy Council of Scotland, vol.v, 1592-1599, Edinburgh 1882, p.691, dated 1st June 1598.] 'William Lauder, burgess of the burgh of Lauder, brother of [the late] Robert Lauder of that Ilk, appointed Tutor for Robert Lauder, pupil, son and heir-apparent of Robert Lauder of that Ilk his father.'[2Inquisitiones de Tutela, number 1276 dated 5th July 1598.]

On 13th June 1611, there is an action for assault and affray in Lauder which mentions Robert Lauder of that Ilk.[3The Registers of the Privy Council of Scotland, vol.ix, Edinburgh, 1889.] In 1623 'the Laird of Lawder', along with close relations, et al, was made a Justice of the Peace for the Baillerie of Lauderdale.[4The Register of the Privy Council of Scotland, edited by David Masson, LL.D., Edinburgh, 1896, vol.xiii, 1622-1625, p.342.]"

Contract between Anna MacDowgill, relict of Robert Lauder of that ilk, and Anna and Isabel Lauder, their daughters, on one part, and Charles Maitland of Haltoun, on the other part, whereby said Anna and her daughters bind themselves to renounce all claim to lands of the forest of Lauder and Walkmyll, in return for lands of Dalcowe"

"Stewart Smith, quoting Lord Fountainhall, relates a civil action in 1643 when 'Robert Lauder of that Ilk, Anne MacDougall his spouse, and Robert Lauder their son, are denounced fugitives for not finding caution for the mutilation of Mr.James Maitland of Auchinchamper.'[12The Grange of St.Giles, Edinburgh, 1898, p.281.] [....]

His daughter Isobel was retoured his heir 26th August 1658.[14Inquisitiones Speciales, Edinburgh 1811, number 309 for Berwickshire.]"
