Marriage Notes: "A baronetcy was possessed by a family of the name of Ramsay, proprietors for a time of the lands of Abbotshall, in Fife. They were purchased from the Scotts of Balvearie by Sir Andrew Ramsay, styled of Waughton, who was created a baronet in 1669, and was son of Andrew Ramsay, a rector of the college of Edinburgh, and minister of the Greyfriars church there. He obtained the latter estate by his marriage with the heiress of Hepburn of Waughton, Haddingtonshire. Sir Andrew Ramsay was bred a merchant, and elected lord provost of Edinburgh in 1654, and for the three succeeding years." |
