User ID: Q931 General Notes: "RAMSAY Andrew married Margaret HEPBURN, daughter of Reverend Mr John HEPBURN 8th of Waughton then also of The Bass, Minister of the Episcopal Church and Marie ROSS.1 (Margaret HEPBURN was baptised on 6 June 1650 in Edinburgh parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.) Marriage Notes: "A baronetcy was possessed by a family of the name of Ramsay, proprietors for a time of the lands of Abbotshall, in Fife. They were purchased from the Scotts of Balvearie by Sir Andrew Ramsay, styled of Waughton, who was created a baronet in 1669, and was son of Andrew Ramsay, a rector of the college of Edinburgh, and minister of the Greyfriars church there. He obtained the latter estate by his marriage with the heiress of Hepburn of Waughton, Haddingtonshire. Sir Andrew Ramsay was bred a merchant, and elected lord provost of Edinburgh in 1654, and for the three succeeding years." Andrew next married Anne (2) MONTGOMERIE, daughter of Hugh MONTGOMERIE Lord Montgomerie, 7th Earl of Eglinton and Mary LESLIE, 30 December 1675 (contract).2 (Anne (2) MONTGOMERIE was born about 1650 and died in 1680 2.) Marriage Notes: "Anne (Montgomerie), married, as his second wife (contract dated 30 December 1675 ), to Sir Andrew Ramsay of Waughton, Baronet, who died in 1680 (eldest son of Sir Andrew Ramsay, Knight, of Abbotshall, who died in 1688). Sir Andrew had issue an only son, Sir Andrew, second Baronet, who died unmarried." |
