GORDON, Wife 1 of Gordonstoun family? 1

  • Born: About 1600
  • Marriage (1): GORDON, Alexander of Dipple, Salterhill and Kinneddar

   User ID: Z70.

  General Notes:

According to Bulloch, James Gordon may have been a half brother of Alexander and George:

"I do not know where James (Gordon minister of Comber) was born or where he was educated. He seems to have gone to Ireland as chaplain of the regiment commanded by Hugh [Montgomery], 2nd Viscount Montgomery, during the rebellion in Ulster in 1641, and whose widow, Jean Alexander, daughter of William. 1st Earl of Stirling, married Major-General Robert Monro. Mr Armistead Gordon's theory that the Rev. James may have had a Gordounston Gordon for his mother becomes all the likelier in view of the part plaved by Sutherland men in quelling the rebellion as recorded in 'The Earls of Sutherland' (pp. 509-510) '

from The Gordons of Salterhill 1

Wife married Alexander GORDON of Dipple, Salterhill and Kinneddar, son of James GORDON of Mosstowie and Unknown. (Alexander GORDON of Dipple, Salterhill and Kinneddar was born about 1590 and died by October 1649 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Was the first wife of Alexander of Salterhill a Gordon of Gordonstown, or otherwise close kin to the Sutherland Gordons?"

from Gordons of Salterhill 1
