SALE OF IDEN/EDEN

George Leslie, 4th of Iden, sold the lands of Iden, or Eden, in King Edward parish Aberdeenshire, between Turriff and Banff, to Sir Francis Grant of Cullen, who in turn sold them to Duff of Braco before 1740.

William Duff of Braco, in 1713, executed a deed of entail in favour of his ' heirs male and female ' as regarded his Eden property, while the lands of Braco, etc., went to his heir-male, Eventually the property came into the ownership of Margaret Miln, married to John Grant of Kincardine O'Neil and later known as Margaret Grant Duff, and their son James, surnamed Grant Duff, inherited the property in his turn. 3

George married Margaret LESLIE, daughter of Patrick LESLIE 15th Baron of Balquhain and Mary IRVINE, in 1710.1 2 (Margaret LESLIE was born about 1693 and died on 3 February 1744 1.)

  Marriage Notes:

"Margaret (Leslie), married to George Leslie of Eden."

from Family of Leslie

"George Leslie, fourth laird, married, in 1710, Margaret, sixth daughter of Patrick Count Leslie, fifteenth baron of Balquhain. In 1727 - when proprietor of the estate of Tyrie - he presented to King's College a curious manuscript in vellum relating to the Cathedral Church of Aberdeen. He died in 1740. Early in the century he had sold the estate of Eden to Sir Francis Grant of Cullen, afterwards of Monymusk, who, in 1712, parted with Eden to William Duff, son of Alexander Duff of Braco, and grandson of Alexander Duff of Keithmore, from whom also descends the Duke of Fife."
