   Cause of his death was pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic bronchitis and senility.

  General Notes:

In 1881 the census recorded James McCafferty as head of a household living at 122 Saltmarket with his wife and 6 month old daughter Rose Ann. His mother in law also lived in the household. James was a slater's labourer and was aged 32 years.

The 1891 census recorded James McCafferty, his wife Agnes and their daughter Rose Ann, living 27 Stockwell Street Glasgow. James was recorded as 42 years old and had been born in County Down. He was a general labourer.

James McCafferty was the head of a small household recorded by the 1901 census for Blackfriars Glasgow. He, his wife, and daughter Rose Ann, and Felix his grandson, lived in a dwelling with one windowed room at 29 Bridgegate. James was a dock labourer who had been born in Ireland. His age was recorded as 53 years.

James McCafferty was recorded as an "Asphalt Worker", in the 1921 death certificate of his daughter Rose-Ann. He was a widower by then.

James McCafferty died in 1923 in the Springburn area of Glasgow. His usual address was 47 Cumberland Lane Glasgow. His recorded age at death was 74 years. He was recorded as an asphalter and widower of Agnes Berry. Both of his parents were deceased. 1

Felix McCafferty, grandson of James, was the informant of his death. His address was noted as 41 Brown Street, Bridgeton, Glasgow.


James married Agnes BERRY, daughter of James BERRY Wood Sawyer and Agnes DAWSON, on 6 September 1880 in St Andrew's RC Chapel, Great Clyde Street, Glasgow, Scotland. (Agnes BERRY was born about 15 July 1850 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland, baptised on 29 July 1850 in St Andrew's RC Chapel, Glasgow, Scotland and died 21 January 1913 at 0.45 am in Eastern District Hospital, Glasgow, Scotland.). The cause of her death was acute bronchitis.


  Marriage Notes:

The marriage was celebrated after banns according to the rites and forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Alex. Munro C.C. married the couple. William Fleming and Maggie McPherson were witnesses.

James McCafferty was aged 32 years and single. He worked as a slater's labourer.

Agnes Berry, who made her X mark, was a cotton factory worker. She was single and aged 28 years. Her father was deceased.

Both bride and groom gave their address as 122 Saltmarket Glasgow.

The marriage was registered on 10 September 1880.
