"The next minister (of Peterhead) is commemorated by a monument in the chancel of the old church in the parish graveyard, which bears a Latin inscription, which may be translated:

Sacred to the memory of a truly reverend man, James Walker, a most faithful minister of the Word of God in this church, who died 1st January, 1763, deeply regretted here, where his worth was fully known.

Rev. James Walker was ordained 9th March, 1739. His manse was accidentally destroyed by fire in the following year. He married, first, in January, 1750, the only daughter of Rev. John Gordon, minister, Old Deer. She died, without issue, in May, 1756. Mr Walker was survived by his second wife, Elizabeth Innes, who, on 28th May, 1772, became the second wife of Thomas Gordon, then Regent, and afterwards Professor of Greek in King's College."

James married Janet GORDON, daughter of Reverend Mr John GORDON Minister of Old Deer parish and Jean FORBES, on 25 January 1750.1 (Janet GORDON was baptised on 27 October 1718 in Saint Nicholas parish, Aberdeen, Scotland 3 5 and died in May 1756 1.)

"James Walker, son of James W., merchant, Peterhead; educated at Marischal College, Aberdeen; M.A. (1723); licen. by Presb. of Dalkeith 1st April 1735; called 4th Jan., and pres. by George II. 17th Oct. 1738; ord. 9th March 1739; died 1st Jan. 1763. A fire in 1740 completely destroyed his manse. He marr. (1) 25th Jan. 1750, Janet (died May 1756), only daugh. of John Gordon, min. of Old Deer : (2) 17th Nov. 1757, Elizabeth Innes, who marr.
