ABBREVIATION: SS.C.

This is the abbreviation in the inscription in Mortlach Churchyard, Banffshire, following the name of George, son of John Gordon and Mary Dawson, as recorded on page 332 of Epitaphs and Inscriptions.

It is an abbreviation indicating membership of The Society of Solicitors in the Supreme Courts of Scotland. On their website, there is a List of Members of the S.S.C. Society 1784-1984 and George Gordon's name is seen against the year 1818. 2 5
