This scenario presented here is speculative, but based primarily on the recorded 'cousin' relationship to David Leslie, 9th of that Ilk and to Davi's father, Norman.
Had George Leslie been illegitimate it is unlikely he would have been included in the entail, since Sir Norman de Leslie, presented here as his father, also had a two younger brothers Walter and George, whose descendants would surely have taken precedence.
An unknown mother, first wife of his father, might also account for George Leslie's status as 'Dominus de Rothes'. ²
