Other names for Jean were LEITH, Janet 2 4 and LEITH, Jean, Mrs.1 User ID: W719. General Notes: "There is a legend that the life of this laird was saved by the devotion of his second wife, Jean Leith, a lady celebrated for her beauty, and who belonged to a family noted for their high spirit. 'When he was laid on a bed of sickness, she tended him with the most affectionate care, till one night, overcome by fatigue, she fell asleep beside him, and was awakened only to find that the mansion of Knockespock was in flames. All the servants had fled, and no assistance was near. Losing not a moment she carried her suffering husband from the burning house, and, laying him in a sheltered spot, returned through the flames at the greatest danger to herself for plaids and other coverings to wrap him from the cold. This affecting incident forms the subject of a ballad, entitled ' Knockespock' s Lady,' and a poem by William Thom, the weaver poet of Inverurie.' (Anderson's Scott. Nation, Vol. I., p. 321.)"
