"Kirkmichael

S. Michael Archangel

"Here lies the body of Ann Lindsay [....] Also Hellen Reid, spouse of William Gordon, Esq. of Glenbucket, and daughter of the Right Hon. Sir John Reid of Barra, who died on the 5th of May 1766 (see Note below), aged 52 years"

from Epitaphs and Inscriptions

Note:

Two dates of death are offered for Hellen Reid. One is in the gravestone inscription listed above, and a second one in the Aberdeen Journal, published 21 February 1763, page 4 column 2, lists it as 2 February 1763. Od the two the inscription date is less likely to be accurate.

"2152- William (Gordon). 1745, Capt. 1746, May 7, at home (Rosebery's List, 1 08). Son of John, of Glenbucket, 2127; b. 1729 (see Note below); m. (i) Helen (1714-66) (see Note below), dau. of Sir John Reid, of Barra; m. (2) 1770, his cousin Christina (1740-1800), dau. of John Macdonell, of Glengarry, by Helen Gordon, dau. of John, 2110, and had with other issue John, whose son, Charles, was the last of the male line of the Gordons of Glenbucket.

2152- line 6, Charles Gordon was not the last of the male line of the Gordons of Glenbucket. The last direct male Gordon of Glenbucket was his first cousin, the Very Rev. Dean William Gordon, a Roman Catholic priest, who died at Greenock, 1880, Dec. 15. Charles Gordon, on the other hand, died at St. Bridget, Tomintoul, 1851, Sep. 12." (from Additions and Corrections)

from Gordons Under Arms

Note:

William Gordon was born in 1725, not 1729; his first wife's date of death is discussed in Note above.
